Rocky has been at same percentage gross for 3 weeks

It was opening week, but opening night was Thursday which I thought might give a boost over the weekend to make up for the comps--probably the 5 percent increase in attendance.

Bridges didn't increase, which is not a good sign since it has been on an upward trend. It's probably still losing 50-100k per week

Toni Braxton and baby face start this week on after midnight so that should increase a lot.

I'm surprised at the interest in raisin since it was revived not that long ago.

I wonder if After Midnight would be stronger at the BO if not for Raisin and, to a lesser extent, Motown. There are not normally 3 big shows starring African-Americans running simultaneously. And soon to add Lady Day.

I saw After Midnight on Fri., 3/7 and it was primarily a white audience with probably a somewhat larger African-American attendance than is usual for a Broadway show.

After Midnight is a well-done revue, but when you take away the considerable star presence of a k. d. lang (or a comparable replacement), it becomes an ordinary show that isn't worth Broadway prices.

i couldn't disagree more. the stars are just gravy. you have the great orchestra doing duke ellington songs, great dancing and a production team firing on all cylinders.

stars will help, obviously, and since they've become such a part of the show i don't think there should be lulls between one and the next but i for one could enjoy the show as it is.

You are absolutely correct -- it is a very entertaining show. My original statement was careless. What I meant to write was without k.d. lang (or a comparable star) I would recommend buying a discounted or rush ticket since both are readily available.

yeah, i'm not sure why they didn't have one star going in right after the other. there may be a good reason i just don't know what it is.

Are you saying they're all dividing the limited African-American audience? I guess I figured the audience for After Midnight was mostly non African-American (like the Cotton Club and most of Broadway audiences).

Why should you be surprised at the interest in Raisin? Denzel Washington always sells tickets when he is on Broadway. It doesn't matter what he does. He's a huge star.

And it is a GREAT play. You certainly don't need to be star-gazing to want to see Raisin in the Sun.
