I wish it were done more often (Stine is was of my dream roles), but I think most small theater companies are terrified of it (and probably rightly so). The tech (and costume budget) required to pull off the dual worlds is daunting. The music is incredibly difficult - you need kick-ass jazz musicians for your orchestra, and equally kick-ass singers used to close harmonies for the Angel City Four. It's glorious when done well, but so, so easy to screw up.
