Any Chicago theater recommendations?

Posted by: robert_j 01:47 pm EDT 03/18/14

It looks like I will be there in the first week of April. Any productions that are getting good buzz?

Thank you for the suggestions. I have seen the NY productions of some of these, but I will see what the reviews are like for some of the local productions.

Just an added note, Road Show and Dessa Rose are playing in two of Chicago's newer and most beautiful theaters: Chicago Shakespeare (on Navy Pier) and Victory Gardens (the meticulously restored old Biograph on Lincoln Ave.)

Cock has been extended thru 5/25. Other local productions that the Tribune has recommended are: Dessa Rose (thru 4/05), Seminar (thru 4/13), Chapatti (thru 4/13), Water by the Spoonful (thru 4/06), and Rent (at the Paramount in Aurora -- thru 4/06).

There is also a local production of August Wilson's King Hedley II which runs thru 4/06.

Can't tell you about the buzz cause they haven't opened yet
But two of interest are
VENUS IN FUR at the Goodman
And
Sondheim's ROAD SHOW, a rewrite of his failed BOUNCE of a decade ago, directed by Gary Griffen at Chicago Shakespeare Theater at Navy Pier.
Both start previews in next few days.
There's a terrific production of COCK, which played NY last year at Profiles theater on the far North. Think it's still running
