I'm Soused with Bathtub Gin -- Midnight and Bullets -- no spoilers

Posted by: stan 07:10 pm EDT 03/18/14

2 Shows from those fun filled days of Prohibition and the Depression.
Sunday: "After Midnight" -- a really nice entertainment -- talented singers and amazing dancers. I avoided this show at Encores (not really my taste in music), but this highly professional show was fun to hear and see.
Monday: "Bullets Over Broadway" I liked it more than "The Producers" -- maybe I was too familiar with the Mel Brooks' movie to fully enjoy the musical, but "Bullets" was so witty and some of the music was so special (who can't enjoy Fats Waller?), and I couldn't really remember the movie so I was smiling all the way through and all the way home. If Helene Yorke doesn't win the Tony for best supporting actress than that means that Karen Ziemba did. Also, Susan Strohman and some of her crew were sitting right next to us!! The Finale, as others have reported, didn't work too well for me, too. I suppose Woody Allen wanted that song (he did use the title for a movie??), but I think a song like "Making Whoopee" might have been a better send off.
