I am REALLY hoping for the best with this one, and hoping I get to see it someday either way.

But I have to say, and it's not that nice, that any new musical (not revival) that chose Kathleen Marshall to choreograph AND direct does not inspire confidence in me. Her competent, sometimes wonderful, sometimes ho-hum work on a career of almost entirely revivals doesn't make her seem like the prime candidate for a high profile new musical. But I'm happy to be surprised. (again, I've liked much of her work enough, so I'm not rooting for her to fail, just surprised by the choice)

I feel like I was too nice to justify what I said... what I mean is sometimes wonderful, too often ho-hum and mediocre, or even boring, work.

In any case, it'll be interesting to see how well Marshall manages something more contemporary. She's also doing Ever After at Paper Mill following Diner, I believe.
