| "GYPSY was last seen on Broadway with Patti LuPone playing Rose...In previous productions, Rose has been played by such leading ladies as Bernadette Peters, Ethel Merman, Tyne Daly, Bette Middler, and Angela Lansbury." Hmmm. I don't think The Merm would be very happy about being lost in the middle like that... Also, they spelled Midler's name wrong. | |

| Interestingly enough, in deadline.com's write up about it, they list Merman first. | |

| Not sure when or how Mama (or Momma) Rose entered the vernacular. The film, however, will (rightly) be called Madame Rose. | |

| In the original NY Times review, Brooks Atkinson refers to her as both "Mrs. Rose" and "Mother Rose." I seem to remember that one of the other reviews of the original referred to Momma Rose, but I can't locate the reference at the moment. | |

| It probably came about because in the show, Rose is called Mama (or Momma...not sure how the script spells it) by her daughters. She also refers to herself as Mama in "Rose's Turn." I find the the use of the title MADAME ROSE interesting because when spelled with an "e" at the end, as it is here, it's correctly pronounced in the French way "Muh-DOM." In every production of the show I've ever seen, it's been pronounced in the English/American way "Mad-um," which is spelled "Madam." Again, I have no idea how it is spelled in the script. So if we're going for the traditional pronunciation, this movie should be called MADAM ROSE. | |

| It's pretty much implied in the play that Rose doesn't have a whole lot of formal education. She bills her act as "Madame Rose ..." but pronounces it "Mad-um" | |

| It should be interesting, for sure. What I wonder is how he is going to pull together the narrative: what sources will he use? There are so many different and conflicting stories and legends (including, of course, the books written by her daughters). I'll watch for sure. Maybe there's another musical in there somewhere... | |

| "Maybe there's another musical in there somewhere..." There's already been an opera, at least: Strauss & Hofmannsthal's ELEKTRA. | |

| Well I'm not sure he'll be doing it, it will be the screenwriter doing the real research and writing the script. I'm very interested to see how it turns out. | |

| I rather wish someone would film or dramatize Eric Preminger's (Otto and Gypsy's son) book about his Mom. It was a really good and colorful read. | |
