I always thought O'Hara really should have won for Piazza. That performance, for me, still stands above any other I've seen from her.

Totally agree. She was wonderful in PIAZZA, in the hardest role in that show. In any other year, she would have won a Tony for her work in SOUTH PACIFIC...then LuPone delivered a fierce "Rose's Turn" in GYPSY and deservedly took home the Tony that year. I feel this may be O'Hara's year. Mazzie's role, even if bumped to Best Actress, may be deemed not as significant as O'Hara's role in BRIDGES or Meuller's role in BEAUTIFUL. Then there's CABARET and Michelle Williams as Sally Bowles is a pretty sure bet for a nomination.
It's sure going to be a competitive category but I think O'Hara's reputation, her history of great work, and her raves in BRIDGES seem to make her the favorite at this point.

Unfortunately I think Yorke's performance was stronger. Mazzie was great, but Yorke really was the female standout
