I think the reason that so many posters on ATC are obsessed with the Tonys is because so many posters here are American. Americans have a fetish for awards, contests, rankings, lists. You see it here pretty much daily in one manifestation or another. Obviously, it is not a unanimous fetish-you and I may have been inoculated against it. (Or maybe you are Russian, as your name suggests, and not American at all.) It is not just about Broadway ; it's every where. I just read an article about Spring Training: "ST games don't count," it said. They don't? Tell that to the kid who got cut because he struck out every time he got up to the plate.
