I think the interest in the Tony Awards is quite reasonable. Tony winners tend to take in more money and more prestige. (Just think of the press Bobby Lopez received for being an EGOT...awards do have impact.) Awards don't always equate to "best" and there are plenty of examples of non-awardees that are among the greatest works (um...GYPSY, for one.) But I do think it is perfectly understandable for Tony Award speculation, particularly now when award season is right around the corner. That said, while it's fun to speculate about "horse races", it should take nothing away from all the horses in the field. A thoroughbred is a fine horse no matter whether they win, place or show.
