It probably came about because in the show, Rose is called Mama (or Momma...not sure how the script spells it) by her daughters.

She also refers to herself as Mama in "Rose's Turn."

I find the the use of the title MADAME ROSE interesting because when spelled with an "e" at the end, as it is here, it's correctly pronounced in the French way "Muh-DOM."

In every production of the show I've ever seen, it's been pronounced in the English/American way "Mad-um," which is spelled "Madam." Again, I have no idea how it is spelled in the script.

So if we're going for the traditional pronunciation, this movie should be called MADAM ROSE.
