She danced on the London stage in "42nd Street" and the song-and-dance part in Weill's "Street Scene" among other credits leading up to her Oscar as Velma in "Chicago". In the original Broadway cast, the leads were British and used their own accents, not French ones. True, Elizabeth Seal was more of a gamine type, but on a stage (not in close-ups), CZJ could pull it off and make this a very hot ticket. It has a really great score, too. As for diva, well certainly Desiree in "A Little Night Music" is one, but that's only one part. Ms. Zeta-Jones has more range. Now, if she can do the kind of kicks Ms. Seal was capable of as Irma, we're in business. If not, hopefully not the usual suspects.
