| The New Conservatory Theatre Center announced their 2014-2015 last night. Here is the line up "Cock" September 5 -October 12 "Die Mommie Die" October 5-November 2 "Shakespeare R & J" November 7--December 14 "Avenue Q" returns December 5--January 8 2015 "Harbor" January 23--March 1 2015 "Other Desert Cities"--March 9 - April 5 "From White Plains"--March 20 -April 26 "Compleat Female Stage Beauty"--May 15 - June 14 | |

| That's 34/ticket. The 7 subscription is 149 or 21/ticket for wed nights. Why are they doing r&j again? It was 01-02 season, but there are other shows much better or stuff never done. It's too bad they couldn't do mothers and sons, but the rights probably aren't available. But what about other recent McNally plays like and the way we go or golden age. Of course I'd like to see Party again, but I guess play S with male nudity are a thing of the past. I don't think I'll renew this year after about 10 years as subscriber. 34 is too much and goldstar will be a lot less. | |

| $34 a ticket isn't out of line at all. The play I'm currently in is $30 per ticket, and my next one will be $32. And the one I have booked after that will have a range of pricing from $25 - $55. | |

| Thurs is more and the. Frid and sund is next with sat highest. What they did was make only one price for mini subscription so one is basically paying sat night prices for any performance. | |

| They did that because adding AVE Q adds more, I bet. It's common for theatres to charge extra for a plan that includes the musical. They probably wanted a simplified 4-Show plan, as opposed to one with AVE Q and without, so they just made it slightly more. | |

| who can blame them for doing ave q again? the entire run was sold out before it even opened! and when a theatre finds a cash cow, you bring it back. (most large theatre's doing christmas carol for example, which i know are usually extras when you subscribe). and r&j was one of the most stunning nights of theatre. totally unexpected. too bad they will not be able to bring back that cast. and as for nudity, please. haven't we moved past that? i have acted at nctc, in shows with nudity, and the first two rows always looked like you were in a live porno house. and why do you need opera glasses in the first two rows? | |

| nctc does not have a 'summer' break. they go from one season right into the next. plus between productions, the conservatory uses the theatre for a one or two week run. not between every production but sometimes. plus they need time to install a new set and they also are generous with the number of previews. and wouldn't a subscription to previews be less expensive? | |

| Both shows end June 28. The new season starts sept 5. That is a summer hiatus of two months. They rarely have shows in July. Occassionally a show starts in mid august. | |

| there are only three theatres in the complex. the decker main stage, the walker, and the small back theatre which is used for cabaret or one person type shows. the back theatre is where the conservatory performs most of the year, but in the summer they use the main stage. | |

| You really seem to have an ax to grind with NCTC. Did Ed Decker kill your dog, or something? They have multiple conservatory programs going on simultaneously. It's mostly in the daytime, but there are a handful of evening performances. The theaters are tied up with these programs, making them unavailable for other shows to rehearse, to have sets built, etc. | |

| I've going to new conserv for almost 20 years. Same with act and I don't like much that perloff has been in charge. As for new conserv, I am pissed at the muni subscription price. And I've been a bit unhappy at the lack of gay content in some of there selections. There are plenty of straight theaters to show other desert cities and don't theaterworks do it last year? And both yellow and beautiful launderette had way more hetero kissing and fondling on stage than a quick gay kiss in both of those shows. And if you are going to do repeat shows like r&j, I think there are better shows. I guess they won't do love valor compassion (99 season) again because of the nudity. And I would like to see kiss of the spider woman musical there. Or Party which I think was a commercial run at the theater under rubys about 15 years ago. | |

| Your glasses -- opera or otherwise -- would be all steamed up anyway. :-) As we've reminisced before on this board, the NC in their title does really stand for New Conservatory now adays, no longer No Clothes. hehehe I actually don't miss it. Seemed almost obligatory in their productions that at least one guy would be naked. | |

And even if there was a slight increase on the Sampler package, how, pray tell, does one step up quality (increase set design budgets, hire Equity actors) without more money? One thing I found notable about their season was the ambition of the season. OTHER DESERT CITIES and STAGE BEAUTY, especially, are shows that come with mandated high production values. (As for the nudity, I can't even believe I have to say this, but for that theatre to survive and grow audiences, they have to become something more than naked boys. All power to them!) | |

| The direction, acting, and production values are all, for the lack of a better word, amateur. Don't get me wrong - I enjoy small productions on a tiny budget. And let's make no mistake; Equity actors are by no means stronger than non-equity actors. I really want to like NCTC, but each time I go , the work has been difficult to sit through. | |

| Addendum: You don't need more money to be better. Hire different artists. Cut some programming in the season. Magic Theater, which is one of the smaller theaters, formerly operated on a similar budget as NCTC, and produces high-quality productions. | |
