Are the classics so out-of-favor now (with kids and adults)?

Oklahoma!, Carousel, Annie Get Your Gun, Brigadoon, Kiss Me, Kate, South Pacific, The King and I, The Pajama Game, Damn Yankees, My Fair Lady, The Music Man, The Sound of Music, Camelot, Hello, Dolly!, Man of La Mancha... Yeah, if your school board finds Guys and Dolls objectionable (!), they may have issues with this or that element in some of these shows, but these are the kinds of titles that would come to my mind to head the list before some of the other suggestions on this thread like Big, Pacific Overtures, A Year with Frog and Toad, etc....
