I never saw it, but it sounded like it had a lot of fun parts. On a Clear Day, the original version, though it does look seriously at reincarnation and has only one female role; it's sweet.
Maybe, though probably not if convention is a big issue, you could do a color-blind-cast version of PURLIE or RAISIN.
And isn't there a GROVERS CORNERS musical based on OUR TOWN floating around?
I think the INTO THE WOODS kids version deals ONLY with the act one of the original. And there's a kids version of FAME, which, as I recall, has censored out everything remotely sexual.
