By the way, Ruth Ann I know exactly where you are coming from -- have worked for a similar youth theater for awhile, but no longer do, precisely because of that attitude from the parents/school board. Fortunately I now live in Ann Arbor where almost anything can be done in High Schools without anyone blinking an eye --- I would recommend: The Secret Garden Spring Version (it's shorter, easier to sing, and rewritten for high school kids) You're A Good Man Charlie Brown (either version, I am partial to the original, not the revisal) Any of the older shows you've already done again The Mikado Pirates of Penzance Peter Pan State Fair (tons of parts) for all your kids Once on This Island (you make the two factions rich vs poor instead of dark vs lightskin and cut The Sad Tale of the Beauxhommes, all the rest can be done 100% intact The Sound of Music (works very well in High Schools) No No Nanette if you have dancer types
