I imagine ''Cripple'' is being brought to Broadway because Brantley gave it a rave in London and hailed Radcliffe's ''finest stage performance'' to date. And it's not a flashy part, but ''a grotesque who fades into the crowd.''

Brantley adds ''Mr. Radcliffe’s Billy fits into this company so naturally that it’s only at the end that you recognize what he’s accomplished.'' If it's such an ensemble part, maybe the show should petition Radcliffe for Featured Actor.

(Hey, Ricky Martin was top-billed as the star of ''Evita,'' but the Tonys allowed him to compete as Featured Actor.)

So far, Radcliffe hasn't had the best luck at the Tonys: He didn't get nominations for his dramatic debut (''Equus'') or his musical one (''How to Succeed in Business''), which was one of my favorite performances that season.

At the Tonys that season, it was so cool that Robert Morse and Matthew Broderick, the past Tony-winning J. Pierrepont Finchs, introduced ''Brotherhood of Man.'' (If it were up to me, Radcliffe and Rob Ashford would've both won Tonys.)

Link ''How to Succeed'' at the Tonys with Radcliffe & Co.
