MAY 2-11, 2014 The Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff, Artistic Producer) The Rosetta LeNoire Musical Theatre Academy will present 9 to 5: The Musical, based on the 1980 20th Century Fox film and originally produced on Broadway by Robert Greenblatt. Directed by Christopher Scott with choreography by Monica Johnson and musical direction by Trevor Bachman, the production will feature 26 members of “The Teen Academy.” Performances will begin on Friday, May 2, 2014 (and continue through May 11) at The Theatre at the 14th Street Y (344 East 14th Street – between 1st & 2nd Aves). Pushed to the boiling point by their boss, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. They conspire to take control of their company and learn there's nothing they can't do -- even in a man's world. Set in the late 1970s, 9 to 5: The Musical is a hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era. Outrageous, thought-provoking, and even a little romantic, 9 to 5: The Musical is about teaming up and taking care of business. The cast of 26 includes Teen Academy members: Rhys Athayde, Cassie Barckett, Crystal Brown, Paul Byrd, Lourden Gutierrez, Wayne Hampton, Amadi Hayer, Henry Houghton, Ryan Horncastle, Adelaide Jenkins, Aracely Jimenez, Audrey Lang, Benjamin Miller, Lizzy Moreno, Sheika Murray, Jewell Noel, Andrew Odnoralov, Louise Palmer, Martin Perez, Alani Gabrielle Ramirez, Michelle Richards, Aaliyah Rivera, Isabella Rivera, Josephine Rivera, Amy Tolentino and Emily Viega. The creative team includes: Josh Iacovelli (Set Design/Production Supervisor), Joyce Liao (Lighting Design), Dustin Cross (Costume Design), Ray Schilke (Sound Design) and Karen Parlato (Stage Manager). The performance schedule for 9 to 5: The Musical is: Friday May 2 and 9 @ 7:30pm; Saturday May 3 and 10 @ 3pm & 7:30pm; Sunday May 4 and 11 @ 3:00pm. The Academy, named after the famed actress Rosetta LeNoire, has been in continuous operation since the 1970s. The students receive training in the performing arts from established theatre professionals. Classes include acting technique, dance and movement, and music, including theory, training and vocal technique. It has been featured in The New York Times, The New York Post, and on NY1. Theatre critic and former Drama Desk Committee Chair Peter Filichia called last year’s production of Hello Dolly! the “Best Musical Revival of the New Season.” The New York Times hailed “the Academy production of “Virtual Families” as a “spirited revival…that displayed the triple-threat talents of a teenaged multicultural ensemble…” The Rosetta LeNoire Musical Theatre Academy is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and by HBO, the Ampacet Corporation, the Jean and Bill Cantor Scholarship Fund, the Burgdorff Foundation, and through the generous support of many individuals.
