Yes, I know - and that's why I mentioned which production the lyrics I quoted came from, and mentioned earlier up this thread that there are two different sets of French lyrics.

Yes, I'll agree that the lyrics on the original concept album aren't as good as the later set of French lyrics - but I still think they're far more interesting than Kretzmer's English text. Boublil's lyrics on the concept album, for better or worse, are influenced a great deal by the social commentary in the source novel; that, to me, is more compelling than the bland slabs of generic emotion in Kretzmer's version, in which the characters are mostly reduced to singing in greetings-card platitudes.
