Yes, I agree with all of that. And I've always felt the adaptation from the original concept of a song cycle, a series of tableaux, or whatever to the musical was done very poorly in many ways -- including the fact that the musical is more than twice as long as the original, yet a very small amount of new music was written for it, resulting in the same melodies being repeated over and over and over again.
