Nudity, Simulated Sex and soiled linen in "3 Penny Opera"

Posted by: Indavidzopinion 02:42 am EDT 03/29/14

In the Atlantic Theatre Company's production of "The Three Penny Opera," there is a hell of a lot of nudity, simulated sex and even a bit of soiled linen. Here you have one of the greatest theatre songs ever written, "Pirate Jenny," and while the actress is singing it, your eyes go to what looks like a semen stain on the silky bit of a skirt (a slip) that she is wearing. Is this necessary, or even effective, in this age of random pornography available on the internet, for people who want to see that? Did the director try much of the same thing in "Belle Epoque," which is listed in the Playbill credits under her name (was this a Lincoln Center production?)
