I love Peter O'Toole, but he is the reason for the poor dubbing in LA MANCHA. The producers had hired a good singer, but O'Toole felt it would be too obvious that he was dubbed and insisted they hired someone who sounded less professional. He wanted people to think he was singing even if he wasn't. As for Lester, I don't think anyone knew that. Soundtrack albums usually credited the character as opposed to the singer when the actor has been dubbed (for example, "Tonight" is credited to Tony and Maria on the WSS soundtrack), but the OLIVER! soundtrack misleadingly did credit Lester. As the actual singer was the musical director's daughter and not a professional singer, she did not ask for or expect recognition of any kind at the time. Lester does sing a phrase or two along with Jack Wild during "Consider Yourself", but he's mixed down pretty low.
