Interesting. Debbie Reynolds supposedly faked an accident in rehearsals for Irene as a favor to Gower Champion who needed more rehearsal time and the producer(s) wouldn't consent so she put herself in the hospital for a few days. I'm not implying this is what happened at Cabaret but your remarks reminded me of that anecdote.
