re: out-of-town previews as well

When the original "La Bete" was in previews during the out-of-town tryout at Boston's Wilbur Theatre in 1991.

Ron Silver only performed in the first preview. The second night his understudy, Tom McGowan went on as Valere.

He knew every line and brought the house down.

He would go on to be nominated for a Tony Award even though the show ended up playing a few weeks on Broadway.
