Maybe the "official new script" left something out? (Or, the change could have been made after that script was printed.)

I have rarely if ever done a show where the printed materials - script and score - were 100% correct. I'm currently working on a production of Carousel and am finding misprints in the score (both lyrics and music) every day. And this is the "revised" score (one might say the "official new score") that is the one currently published. (Yes, I know there is a very brand new version that is being prepared and tried out as we speak - we don't have that version - but I will bet there will be mistakes in that one too. And I assume the published score will not get a corrected printing - though one never knows.)
