"The wages of the performers doesn't have any bearing." Nonsense. The pay scale for the previous not-for-profit run would have been a lower, non-commercial one (there are different tiers for different types of production). This is a chance for the artists who created the show and the Public Theater to be remunerated for their effort. Joe Papp did that with A Chorus Line years ago, and endowed The Public's artistic program. I think it's eminently fair, and a great way to make not for profit theater viable in New York. In any event, you have an interesting way of valuing theater by performance length. If you're more comfortable sitting, you probably should see a seated show.
