I totally agree. Drilling down into the story is really a way of avoiding the fundamental issue which is that a lot of people find everything they see and hear about the show boring. I know the score has a lot of fans here, but I think if you veer out into the general population of prospective audience members, you will find that they are not nearly so enthusiastic. I also agree with the other post that suggests this would have been better suited to Playwrights or some similar venue.
