I don't take it for granted, but I don't require it either. If they're going to be on network TV, I would prefer a mainstream audience designed show to full out promote all of Broadway (more musical numbers - that's why people watch, and show all of Broadway, and go ahead and emphasize what mainstream audiences want to see.) It still wouldn't be a top draw, but a better advertisement for what's on Broadway, and not clutter it up with legendary theatre actors giving acceptance speeches and obscure theatre jokes.

And let the Tony Awards be the Tony Awards - if a smaller networks wanted to air it fine. Otherwise, do a webcast.

I'm just saying what I prefer, I'm not saying it would ever happen, and I say this because they continue to try to make Broadway into something it's not in order to sell it to people who really don't want to see it (as it really is). It, to me, is sad, when friends text me after the show and can only a) say they want to see Motown (no offense to Motown, but it is not the best thing on all of Broadway, to me, and I think they would be just as happy at a retro-Motown concert, when Broadway can offer more; and b) ask what show is NameaTVorMovieorPopMusicCelebrity in).
