Excellent point. Some people have expressed the opinion that Robert is very much a fantasy figure out of a romance novel (or whatever) because he's a stunningly good-looking, hot, smart, sweet, available guy who arrives out of the blue. But I think the bigger issue is the one you cited; it's not so much how he arrives, what he looks like, and how their affair starts, but what happens afterwards that strains credulity.
