very little rehearsal I can believe. Most of these stories however (and especially the boastful ones told years later by the people involved) I view as hyperbole, apocryphal, fish tales or the like. What bugs me about these stories is that they play into the same sort of hagiography i find really unhealthy in the theatre. They are cousins to the "so and so went on even when sick as a dog" nonsense. I don't think that sort of thing is a positive thing in the theatre any more than i do in sports.
