Over the last decade at least, going to a Bway shows has been characterized as something gay men do. Gay men are shown knowing all broadway show tunes, the Tonys celebrates how gay theatre is, and blah, blah, blah.

Straight men get a little freaked out by that.

Ironically, over the years, gay men have been going in fewer numbers too. Bway (and the classical arts) are no longer a gay man's haven.
