I much appreciated the clarity of this review. The first analysis of the show I've read that very clearly weighs the ambitions of the framing device and premise against the demonstrated pitfalls of the execution. And gives credit to the score, untethered to the show's craft and storytelling concerns.

The score is generic. Matthew notes this about the lyrics but it's true of the music as well.
