| Although it's not entirely uniform - arguably, their best review has come from Jesse Green at NY Mag. I will admit, I wasn't sure about seeing this one, but I find him to be a remarkably intelligent and astute commentator. | |

| Well I am very much a man and am still thinking about it a week later. I found the random confusion of the storytelling, book and score actually to be a big part of its charm. As Beth/Liz fights the good fight of one of her choices against the other, so the left and right sides of the brains in the audience fight the same fight. I think Idina and LaChanze have Tony recognition ahead, perhaps 2d Tonys for each. Supporting actress looks to be a very weak category this year with no strong obvious nominee from ROCKY or BRIDGES, and BULLETS-- a mess. Adriane Lenox and the Broadway debuts of GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE may be her only real competition. | |

| I loved LaChanze in If/Then and would be thrilled to see her win a Tony for her peformance I was greatly disappointed by Bullets but the best thing about Bullets are the supporting performances of Mazzie, Wolfe and Ziemba and I wouldn't count them out at Tony time. | |

| Mazzie was dazzling in Bullets-and she's in the same boat as O'Hara-she's never won before and been nominated several times. She surpassed my expectations and I fully anticipate she'll be nominated alongside her co-star Yorke. (I'm hoping Mazzie wins-she really did show some range here.) | |

| I thought Mazzie was not only excellent but she was able to make the role her own but Yorke was entirely generic and not as distinctive as Tilly was in the movie. I'd rather see Wolfe or Ziemba recognized though Ziemba's role is pretty small. | |

| And Marilyn Stasio's review is arguably the most negative. Several men join the women in the center. I don't see a gender divide. | |

| I think it's interesting that Stasio seems to have misunderstood the ending of the show, stating that ***SPOILER****** Liz/Beth chooses the anti-feminist storyline. And it seems that this misconception rubbed her the wrong way. Jesse Green's review, however, makes the lovely point that the choice is irrelevant - in both storylines, Liz/Beth gets the man and the job..the only thing that is different is the order. In other words, no matter the choice, there will be highs and lows, and constant new decisions to make. Count me as a man, who, although perhaps not enthralled, particularly with some B plots in the first act, found it extremely fascinating. Then again, I am a theatergoer who would always much prefer a fascinating mess to a polished tap dance. Isn't life closer to the former? | |

| I have to agree. The NY Mag vs. the Stasio seal the deal for me. It doesn't seem to be female-driven storytelling that's dividing the critics, but the success of the conceit, the premise itself. Most reviews are very willing to watch the Menzel character explore her midlife crisis; they find fault with the schematic story design and splintering of supporting players. More often than not, it seems to be a case of the execution creating the negativity, not the idea itself. Haven't picked up misogyny in the subtexts. | |

| I don't either - on this board, or in "real world" samples either. I do think more of her fan base is female, but that's yet another population segment. | |

| I'm a woman and I HATED If/Then. That said, I'm guessing the Idina fans, largely female, will keep this running. Once she leaves I think the show is done. | |

| I'm a Male and I hated it -- I saw it with two women who didn't hate it, but didn't really like it either And I also went with another male who hated it even more than I did... | |
