The source material and it's tepid reviews gave this show an uphill battle to begin with.

Did you actually look at the reviews? As pointed out elsewhere, the show received positive notices from:

Time Magazine
New York Daily News
New York Post
Entertainment Weekly
Associated Press
New York One
Time Out
Newsday
NBC New York
Bergen Record


And even the mixed reviews had good things to say about the leads and/or score.
