I have to agree. The NY Mag vs. the Stasio seal the deal for me. It doesn't seem to be female-driven storytelling that's dividing the critics, but the success of the conceit, the premise itself. Most reviews are very willing to watch the Menzel character explore her midlife crisis; they find fault with the schematic story design and splintering of supporting players. More often than not, it seems to be a case of the execution creating the negativity, not the idea itself. Haven't picked up misogyny in the subtexts.
