Who Should Subsidize Your Ticket?

Whom would you like to subsidize your evening out? Audiences were able to see Here Lies Love at a deep discount during its creation because of. those who subsidize the theater -- including the actors, who worked for a long time at off-Broadway scale. Do you begrudge them the right to earn a higher wage now, or would you like them to volunteer for you indefinitely?

The same thing happened with a little show called A Chorus Line, which was created by Joe Papp at The Public and went on to earn Broadway prices and thus help support the theater's mission, including its other productions and the artistic risks it takes. Institutions like The Public don't just appear by magic. I think It is managed just fine.

If you think this is not a good system for off-Broadway creativity to continue, perhaps you could share your model, including a budget and strategic plan?
