They're more than the landlord...

...although they are that for this show, which requires an unusual space. But when a not-for-profit institution like The Public creates a show that goes on to have a commercial run (as they did with A Chorus Line and Hair) the institution can participate and profit in other ways as well. It's one way to help endow the institution to subsidize and take risks on other projects without disappearing like commercial Off-Broadway did.

Its evolution. The dinosaurs didn't make it, but the birds did.
