Trust me, I will be surprised if it even gets a nomination.

On paper it reads like it can't miss but the production is a true stinker. One of the biggest disappointments in many a season.

I think it could be s toss-up this year with no clear front-runner unless the show opening at the Palace upsets the cart.

The show at the Palace (Holler IF Ya Hear Me) isn't starting until May 26 which I believe is way after the deadline for eligibility for this season's awards.

That's correct - it's more than a month after the cut-off date, which is April 24.

It will get many nominations, and quite probably many wins, IMHO.

And I've seen ALL the new musicals this season.

re: I saw BULLETS and I LOVED it!...hmmm, did we see the same show?

I have seen every musical in NYC this year including Bullets and it is definitely NOT in my top 5...or even top 10 if we include revivals...

By own thoughts?
The Best Musical nominees will be:
Gentleman's Guide
Rocky
Bridges of Madison County
Alladin
and if they include a 5th one this year it will be
Big Fish

You saw the same show and had different opinions, and that's OK (nm)

Agreed Mike -- I certainly know that some people love shows that others do not....

Last night I was speaking with someone who had just seen Bullets and not only did he not like it, he said that the audience did not laugh much, and the response did not seem enthusiastic.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago. I had distinctly mixed feelings about it, but the night I saw it, the audience was very responsive, laughing a lot and giving the numbers strong responses. The standing ovation at the end seemed much more than obligatory.

I remained seated.

I have not, but even as a fan of the film, I'm not drawn to a show that juke boxes standards. (It's just not my taste, not because the music and lyrics aren't stellar; to me, shoehorned words written independent of circumstance offer limited access to character.) Are the Tony Awards message-senders? One recalls the "upset" when AVENUE Q bested WICKED, and tea leaves were read about what "message" was being sent. Ultimately, not much, since both shows have proven solid hits. But this year, if the new shows are passed over for a recycled film with an added score, we will no doubt wonder if the hands of new composer-lyricist teams have been slapped by a business claiming to embrace them. Or not. If BULLETS takes the top award by default (because in the message-sending department, no one wants to pat Disney on the head again, even in an off-year), will we begin wondering about the future of the entirely home-grown, from-the-ground up American musical? Maybe until September.
