Barbra vs Carol in HELLO, DOLLY!

Posted by: Zelgo 11:16 am EDT 04/02/14

Streisand seems like an odd choice to play Dolly when compared to the type the creators went for in the Bway version (the idiosyncratic Channing).

Streisand, of course, is a big star and sang the songs better than anyone ever has.

The age Streisand portrays, however, has many calling her miscast in the role.

For those who never knew of or saw Channing as Dolly, would they feel Streisand is miscast? Does the movie script refer to Dolly as being middle aged? Couldn't a woman of Streisand's age at the time have the level of life experience Dolly exudes?
