| GREED, A NEW MUSICAL FOR OUR TIMES WILL HAVE ITS OFF-BROADWAY PREMIERE AT NEW WORLD STAGES OPENS THURSDAY APRIL 3RD Book, Music and Lyrics by Michael Roberts Directed by Christopher Scott Starring Stephanie D'Abruzzo, Julia Burrows, James Donegan, and Neal Mayer Greed: A Musical for Our Times, written by Michael Roberts and directed by Christopher Scott with music direction & arrangements by Steven Gross, will begin its Off-Broadway, open-ended premiere engagement at New World Stages/Stage 2 (340 West 50th Street). Opening Night is set for April 3rd. Greed: A Musical for Our Times is presented Off-Broadway by Eric Krebs. Tony Award nominee Stephanie D'Abruzzo (Avenue Q), will head the cast, along with Julia Burrows, Neal Mayer and James Donegan. What do Jamie Dimon, Lance Armstrong, Pope Francis and Bernie Madoff have in common? They all appear in Greed: A Musical for Our Times... Greed's musical comedy targets range from Ponzi schemes to the not so subtle sales pitches of retirement planners and mortgage bundlers, with numbers like “A Little Juice,” “Inside Information,” “I'll Cheat On My Taxes,” and “The Ballad of Jamie Dimon,” Greed takes aim at the obvious, and not so obvious, targets. Michael Roberts is the author, composer and lyricist of the musicals Golf: The Musical and The Fartiste, which played Off-Broadway during the 2011-12 season and won the 2006 FringeNYC Best Musical Award. Performances are Wednesday evenings at 7pm, Thursday and Saturday evenings at 8PM (Wednesday March 19th only at 8pm). JAMES DONEGAN is delighted to join this greedy company. James likes to think of himself as a generous person, except when it comes to anything that starts with a lowercase "i". James appeared Off-Broadway in three editions of Forbidden Broadway and on two albums (the Rude Awakening and Goes to Rehab editions). His CD "So Much Spring" isn't at all funny, but he likes it -- and you should buy it on iTunes. NEAL MAYER recently returned to New York after performing with the national tour of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert. Neal’s New York credits include the Broadway Company of Les Misérables and such Off-Broadway shows as Forbidden Broadway, Bush Is Bad (CD), Plaisir D’amour, and Walmartopia. In addition to the national tour of 101 Dalmatians (directed by Jerry Zaks), he has appeared at numerous regional theaters such as Arena Stage, Goodspeed, North Shore Music Theatre, Ivoryton Playhouse, Skylight Opera, Weston Playhouse, the Schoolhouse Theater, and the Bushnell. Favorite roles include Malvolio in Twelfth Night, Harding in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Mendel in Falsettos and Fagin in Oliver! Neal’s television credits include “Blue Bloods,” “All My Children,” and numerous sketches on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.” Neal is happy to reunite with Michael, Chris, and Eric, after previously appearing in Golf: The Musical. MICHAEL ROBERTS (Composer/Book/Lyricist) is the author, composer and lyricist of the hit Off-Broadway comedy Golf: The Musical. After its critically acclaimed 2003-‘04 Off-Broadway run at the John Houseman Theater, there continues to be dozens of national and international productions. In the nine years since its New York debut, Golf has been revived Off-Broadway twice, and has played in twenty-five US states, and in five countries on four continents, from Japan to New Zealand and Scotland. Recently there have been new productions in Texas, Canada, and Finland. He is a two-time recipient of the ASCAP PLUS AWARD for his work in musical theater. He is the composer and lyricist for the Off-Broadway musical, The Fartiste, which won the award for Best Musical at the 2006 Fringe NYC Festival. A successful run Off-Broadway in the 2011-2012 season was followed by a concert performance at The Charing Cross Theatre on London's West End. His newest musical (again with Fartiste collaborator Charlie Schulman), The Goldstein Variations, made its concert debut at the JCC in Manhattan in May, 2008 and has since been produced at American University and in concert at NYC's Abingdon Theatre. It is being prepared for an Off-Broadway opening in 2014. Michael’s Thanks for the Memories, a one-man show about Bob Hope featuring two-time Tony-nominee Joel Blum, received its premiere at Peoria's Prairie Theater in 2006, with a second production in Marin, CA in 2010. He was, for fifteen years, the composer/lyricist and music director for The Broadway Kids, which had a successful run at The Lambs Theater in 2005-‘06, and returned Off-Broadway at New World Stages in 2008 CHRISTOPHER SCOTT (Director) collaborated with Michael Roberts and Eric Krebs on the original Off-Broadway production of Golf: The Musical. He is Artistic Associate with Amas Musical Theatre where he directed a revival of Hello Dolly. Most recently directed Suzan-Lori Parks In The Blood at Baruch College. Anouilh’s Antigone for The Joel Segall Great Works reading series at The Baruch Performing Arts Center as well as Hedda Gabler, Medea and Albee's Zoo Story. As part of The First Irish Festival 2013 he directed The Morons by Dan McCormick and nominated for a jury award as Best Director. STEVEN GROSS (Music Director/Arrangements) has worked on Broadway the West End and in Europe as conductor and pianist on such shows as The Life, Urinetown, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Chicago, Miss Saigon, Phantom, The Wedding Singer, Saturday Night Fever, Dreamgirls plus the New York City Opera productions of A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, The Most Happy Fella and Candide. He has worked off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons, the Algonquin Theater, and his adaption of The Pirates Of Penzance at the South Street Seaport was Lortel Award nominated for Best Musical. He has collaborated as an orchestrator/arranger and developer on new musicals with composers such as Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus, Cy Coleman, David Friedman, and Mark Hollmann. He also works actively as an orchestrator and arranger for many symphony orchestras, as well as varied Television, radio, video and on-line stations. His musical Nijinsky has been performed in Berlin, Hamburg, Zurich, and will debut in Lausanne and Paris in the next 2 seasons. On Broadway he produced Electra, It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues, Bill Maher in his Victory Begins at Home, Avery Brooks in Paul Robeson and Neil Simon's The Dinner Party. His Broadway productions have received 10 Tony Award nominations. Off-Broadway, he produced over 40 productions, including Sam Shepard's Fool For Love, Neil LaBute's Bash, The Capitol Steps, etc. He built and operated the John Houseman and Douglas Fairbanks Theaters for 23 years. In the not-for-profit theater, he founded and was Artistic Director of the George Street Playhouse in New Jersey, a regional theater now in its fortieth season.
