Streisand seemed to be about 40 in the film (and they aged her pretty well) If you watch "Yentl" when she was 40 you'll see she looks the same. Channing was about 40 when she first played the role

Even If she wasn't as old as Shirley Booth was in the film of "The Matchmaker" she still came across as being right as a meddling matchmaker from New York.

Lucille Ball would have been the right age and could also have played the meddling matchmaker but with out the vocal abilities Streisand had.

The question of why Dolly wants to marry Horace (Money seems most the obvious) is just as questionable in the film of "The Matchmaker" as Horace doesn't seem like the type of man anyone would want to live with.
