There were multiple references to Moss' hunger especially by George. Remember the scene where Moss scarfed down George's biscuits when the maid brought out afternoon tea. And later in Act II when George & Moss are going to stay up all night for script changes George says something like I ordered coffee and sandwiches for you since you're always hungry.

All in all, I rather enjoyed the play (I've never read the book it's based on). I thought it was a very charming & well done production. I dare ask: Must every semi biographical play about performers or artists trying to make it in the biz hit the audience over the head with desperation and hunger? Not every play is A Chorus Line nor should it be!

It doesn't need to hit us over the head. But as you watched the play, did you ever worry about Hart's ability to get a decent meal? I would argue that you should.

He grew up in severe poverty.

The success of Once in a Lifetime gave him freedom in so many ways.

There was charm in the play and the production. There is potential for SO MUCH MORE. And there are times that Hart's hunger is as desperate as Nicholas Nickleby's. A book and production that is said to have inspired a lot of Lapine's work here.

If you enjoyed the play, you will love the book.
