| The quite lengthy article in last week's New Yorker spoke about how Stro went on a national tour of Chicago with Jerry Orbach, Chita Rivera and Gwen Verdon. That is not true. I saw the touring production in January,1978 in Baltimore Maryland and only Jerry Orbach from the original cast was in it; also featured Carolyn Kirsch and Lenora Nemetz. Anyway, this is quite disturbing since fact checking was one of The New Yorker's hallmarks. Also the article was so upbeat about her professional work. They could have focused on some of her duds like young Frankenstein. | |

| This is my memory: the tour began with Orbach, but without Rivera and Verdon. Business was very bad with two unknowns in the leads, so Rivera and Verdon were brought in to head the road company.I believe the NYC production had long since closed. I got to see the show twice in Chicago at the Blackstone. It was thrilling for me, and the only time I got see Gwen Verdon on stage. Ialso got to see Katharine Hepburn and Maggie Smith at the Blackstone. | |

| I saw Chicago at the Orpheum Theater in San Francisco in July 1978, and the cast included Verdon, Rivera, Orbach and even Mary McCarty. | |

| The tour opened in St. Louis on Aug. 29, 1977, with Penny Worth as Roxie, Carolyn Kirsch as Velma, and Orbach. On April 4, 1978, Verdon and Rivera joined the tour. Not sure quite how long they stayed or who replaced them when they left. | |

| Gwen Verdon, Chita Rivera, Jerry Orbach, and Mary McCarty all played the show in Los Angeles at LA Civic Light Opera All of the above plus M. O'Haughey (not sure if he also did the LA run) also played the show at the Blackstone Theatre (now the Merle Reskin Theatre) in Chicago, IL. There was some billing issue in one of those cities where Jerry Orbach ended up getting star billing with Verdon and Rivera's names appearing on the line under is. | |

| I saw the L.A. production twice, also once in NY with Chita and once with Lenora Nemetz. In L.A. I sat next to a season subscriber who turned to me before curtain and said "So do you know what this show is about?". The show was so overshadowed by A CHORUS LINE that year that I can understand why no one would see it without stars--they probably hadn't heard of it. | |

| I saw that same tour when it came to Los Angeles, and it was Verdon, Rivera and Orbach. Maybe the two ladies dropped out by the time it got to Baltimore? | |

| Thanks for the clarity. I think after LA it was picked up by the two lesser known actresses, as the tour was only 6-8 months I believe (as I remember from the most recent Fosse book). But I still state that the NYer article was sort of saccharine. | |

| Where can we go to find that hard-hitting story on Stroman that we have all been waiting for? | |
