It is always possible, because this is the internet, that someone "said just that" but I concur with Alan that it was not anyone who posts regularly. Perhaps you are confusing what people have written about off-B in general (which is thriving) with what has been said about just commercial off-B (which is not thriving). In any case, yes there are folks who want everything for next to nothing, whether it is cutting edge or not, and even whether it is theatre or not. In the non-profit sector, we can certainly advocate for "impossibly low prices" like those at Signature and many of those at the Public and other venues, and we can encourage public and private funding that supports cheap and free theatre. But on the for profit side, pricing is going to follow demand. It is worth noting that in this particular case, the show would have gone to Broadway, had it been logistically possible, and what's happening is the best available alternative, and that translates to less tickets to sell, less costs to incur and a higher risk profile.
