it doesn't even have to be as intimate as 54 below. i found the recent shows at town hall with alan cumming pretty dreadful but i thought what a perfect size venue for her. i've seen her over the years come up from the audience in the carlyle and (i think) birdland. this isn't a slam against her at all but that close up doesn't work for her. you need a little distance. again, that's not a slam, it's just that close she felt too in your face. besides, stars should be seen from a distance, right?

i'm not saying a 54 below show wouldn't be good - there's more distance there than you get at the carlyle or at least it feels that way to me. and, i guess, what she'd get out of it that she couldn't get at town hall would be being able to make eye contact with her audience. so, yeah, i guess you're right. a 54 below show would be great. if you survived the fight for a ticket.

the allen room would work as well.

i could not agree with you more about her slowing it down. i'd love that, too. especially in new york. as much as the idea is brought up here and in conversation with me among friends i'm sure the folks who work with her musically (and are so smart and who so obviously care about her) have brought this up to her as well. i hope she listens.
