| Don't understand why so many people have been disappointed in this show. It was tight as a drum last night and the whole production was a delight from start to finish. Great performances, terrific choreography, excellent musical choices, funny book and stylish production design. | |

| I saw it yesterday. It is certainly very tight now and the performances are good, although I think Helene Yorke is rather one-note in a role that is admittedly hard to flesh out. I certainly wasn't bored and there were some moments I smiled. But it just didn't really engage me. I didn't leave with the buzz that a good musical can give you. I think it's partly that it lacks likeable characters and genuine heart. And despite a lot of added lyrics to make them fit, the songs aren't filling out the story. It's like a chocolate easter egg - bright and tasty on the outside but hollow within. In a blah year for Broadway musicals, it will probably win the Tony but it wouldn't get my vote if I had one. One note to those buying tickets. Given the gangster theme, a lot of the cast are wearing hats cocked down in gangster fashion. This means more than half the audience is looking at a hat and not a face for parts of the show and that includes the key role of Cheech. It's probably a show best seen from the orchestra. | |

| Still a mess. It has no forward momentum, except occasionally in the scenes--most of which I recognized from the movie, where they were far more charming. Mazzie and Yorke do what they can with roles so identified with Wiest and Tilly. But the show is clunky. Not once did a song moment thrill me. Isn't this a musical? I think it's a damn shame Bullets is going to be this year's "Best Musical." | |

| . . . I don't think there's any chance at all of Bullets winning Best Musical this year over rather formidable competition. I'm not sure it will even be nominated, if they only nominate four. There are at least six other big musicals this season that have all rather split the critics and/or the public, and I don't think Bullets will have any better chance at a nomination (and somewhat less at a win) than any of the others. | |

| TOTALLY agree with you -- it won't even be nominated this year if they nominate 5 shows. There's nothing wrong with it -- but there's also nothing right with it. Its bland and color-by-number. It might be a different story if it had a original score. Without, its sunk. The reality is, Stroman did better work with Big Fish, and if either of the two shows get a nod, it should be Big Fish. | |

| I'm glad to hear this. I saw the show early in previews and it was a MESS. Here's hoping that your observations mean they've really been working on the show, fixing and tightening and cutting. | |

| Apples and Oranges I guess. The show I saw last Friday WAS a mess. Maybe my expectation were too high but it clear from the mood of the audience the night I saw it that this show was a big ol' turkey about to hatch. | |

| I saw the third preview. Is the finale still the "banana" song? I really felt it didn't work. | |
