What high profile new pieces have they had this season? Curious Incident and The Audience weren't that long ago and didn't hurt transfer talks. I think it has more to do with their sched and their audience, which disappears for new plays without a star or intense buzz.

i think a huge chunk of their broadcast audience is british

there were stats for one show recently, and twice the amount of people saw it in britain than the US--and our population is probably 5 or 6 times more. And i really do believe (but nothing to back it up) that the British love shakespeare more than Americans (although i was surprised at the popularity of RichIII/12thNight on broadway. so I think NTLive is picking shows that British audiences want to see more than what I want to see--how dare they! i'd love to see the Light Princess, but that might have commercial potential. I just noticed that A Small Family Business is being broadcast--i must have missed that announcement.
