I think it's possible to be pretty AND tough. Paul Newman, for example, could certainly be tough. Hugh Jackman is pleasing to look at but he can be surly and intimidating, depending on the character he's playing. And boxers like Muhammad Ali and Oscar De La Hoya (in their respective primes) were very easy on the eyes.

What's really necessary for Sky is an element of danger; something menacing underneath that smooth surface. The reason I never cared for Peter Gallagher in the 1992 revival was that he seemed about as menacing as buttermilk - smooth, but no edge. On the other hand, Jerry Orbach always had that edge; I would have loved seeing his Sky Masterson. And needless to say, it's a quality that Marlon Brando also possessed.
