Feinstein's at the Nikko

Posted by: LoisP 04:02 pm EDT 07/19/14

As chance would have it, we will be visiting San Francisco when Linda Eder is performing at Feinstein's, and the one evening we're free during her stint is our friends' 42nd wedding anniversary. Never having been to this venue, can anyone offer advice on the "Upfront" vs. "Premium" seating, which seem to be the only two options, and how early one must arrive for the best seat within each area?

Thanks so much!

20 minimum plus tax and tip.

The food selection is very small. There is a menu on line. So if you want a really tasty dinner, go somewhere else. In the hotel is anzu which is pricy japanese, but very good. And they give you priority seating at show if you dine there, just tell them when you make reservstions.

I also recommend bringing earplugs. They crank up the volume in thst small space. The sound booth is behind a window, so I dont think they hear it. I wish they would not use microphones at all. cant singers project 10 rows?

Thank you. I made reservations via Open Table, so I'll call the restaurant to have the note added. Our traveling companions bought the tickets and opted for the Upfront category; I'm assuming we'll still select a table, just in that section. It's their anniversary, so their option - and one of them is hard of hearing, so the cranked up volume will be of benefit!

Thanks again.

Upfront is the 1st row of tables in front of the stage. Very up-close and personal. It is also the floor center. Premium is usually the center of the room and seats on the raised area.
Since you'll be dining at Anzu, I'd make a stop at Feinstein's (you have to walk past it) to choose your seats, tell them your dining upstairs, and then go onwards to your dining reservation.
I've been part of large groups at shows before where we had the most expensive ticket. One time they sat us at 3 tables in front of the stage, and another time we asked to be sat in the curbed sitting area a little farther back. So, you can suggest seats upon entering the room.
It is a small room, so all seats are good. Have a great time.

Thanks so much. Wasn't sure if I needed to contact someone to choose now, but if that's not even an option, we'll be sure to stop at the Maitre d' stand prior to going up to Anzu. Much appreciated!

Premium seats are just fine. You don't want to be on the extreme sides but otherwise the seating will be fine. Expensive cover + they add on gratuity and tax.
It is always an expensive evening.

Most shows appear on Goldstar.

Thanks bk. Would it make sense to use the cover for dinner since the food comes from the restaurant anyway? Do you know what time they start seating?

Seating starts 1 hour 30 minutes before showtime. If you don't drink, it would be smarter to use your minimum on food.
Watch gold star for discount admission.

I am surprise that "Forbidden Broadway" is not on Goldstar. Have they had full crowds every night for this.

I had heard that some persons were complaining about Goldstar. One person who I won't name bitched that he paid full price for a show and the persons sitting at the next table paid only 1/2 on Goldstar.

The discount wasnt 50% and it was based on the price of the ticket plus feinsteins 7 fee per ticket. So goldstar price was about 42 with fee for 52 ticket. I think only pRemium are discounted now.
