Not exactly what Cole Porter had in mind...

Like a lot of folks who hang out here, my ears are hypersensitive to any use of show tunes or musical references in the media. Between innings of an Angel game this week, I was in the kitchen, but heard from the TV the unmistakable music of Porter's "I Love Paris." Except they'd altered the lyrics to "I Love Texas" to advertise Carl's Jr's new BBQ burger. I'd actually seen this commercial before, but always with the mute button on. And, believe me, my husband certainly noticed it, too, with SI swimsuit model Hannah Ferguson and Paris Hilton washing a dirty pickup and eating burgers on it, all to Porter's tune. The ad not so subtly refers back to the Hilton ad from nine years ago (!), which used the same song with the correct lyrics. Well, I guess there aren't many other commercials currently using sixty-plus year old songs! :) Laura
