Broadway Grosses 8/03 — No big lift in final weeks for ‘Rocky’ & ‘Bullets’ but ‘Newsies’ strong

-

  • Last week Broadway grosses totaled $26,391,545 for 26 shows. Grosses for the prior week totaled $27,038,225 for 27 shows.

  • Lots of press and advertising about the final weeks for Rocky hasn’t lifted ticket sales in any meaningful way. The musical grossed $767,519 last week, while some $66K better than the prior week, remains on par with what it has been grossing all along: numbers that are below running costs. Bullets Over Broadway, which sunk to the $600K level this summer, remained there last week ($641,157) despite its ‘last weeks’ announcement.

  • However, Disney’s Newsies, which will close on August 24 after 1,004 performances, has increased grosses in recent weeks. Last week, they added up to a strong $919,050.

  • The Lion King grossed $2,559,076 for a nine-performance week and Wicked grossed $2,181,109, also for nine.
